NEW THING – LOOK TO HIM

See, I have already begun… Do you not perceive it?

See… What God Is Doing Now

When God spoke to the children of Israel through the prophet Isaiah, He wasn’t just reminding them of His past faithfulness—He was inviting them to see Him right now.

“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun!

Do you not see it?

I will make a pathway through the wilderness.

I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”

— Isaiah 43:18–19 (NLT)

God wanted His people to look to Him, not just at what He had done before. Yes, they had seen miracles in Egypt and at the Red Sea—but this time, God was doing something different. Something new.

He wanted them to fix their gaze on Him—their Redeemer, Creator, and King—not their problems or past.

“Let all the world look to me for salvation! For I am God; there is no other.”

— Isaiah 45:22 (NLT)

Fix Your Gaze

When our focus is on God, our perspective shifts.

“Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.”

— Romans 12:2a

God doesn’t just want our attention—He wants intimacy. He desires that we know Him, see Him, and seek after Him. The more we draw near through prayer, worship, and time in His Word, the more we can see with spiritual eyes.

But if we don’t make time for God, we limit what we can perceive. We miss the evidence of His hand already at work around us.

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them,

will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

— John 15:5 (NLT)

A Lesson in the Kitchen

Not long ago, I got a personal reminder of this truth.

My family had just returned from a trip to Chicago to surprise my mom for her birthday. After a long weekend, I was exhausted. I fully expected to come home to the usual post-trip mess—dishes in the sink, clutter on the counters, and chores waiting for me.

But when I walked into the kitchen… it was spotless.

Counters wiped. Sink empty. Everything in its place.

I turned to my husband—speechless—and all I could say was, “Thank you!”

After nearly 29 years of marriage, that was not our normal division of labor.

Then I noticed the foyer table—cleared and dusted. The bathroom—sparkling. Even the food storage cabinet—organized! I just kept walking around in awe, whispering, “What is happening right now?”

At first, I rationalized it. Maybe he was bored or couldn’t work outside.

But the truth was, something deeper was shifting. He was changing—and it was real.

“Do You Not See It?”

Later, while chatting with my sister about house chores, I mentioned how different my husband had been. “I don’t know what has come over him,” I laughed, “but whatever it is, I thank God!”

And right then—the Holy Spirit whispered to me:

What have I been speaking to you? What is your word for the year?

Then the verse rushed back:

“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.

See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?”

— Isaiah 43:18–19

Tears filled my eyes. God had already begun the new thing—right in my own home! I had been praying, hoping, and imagining how I thought God would move in my husband. But I was still looking at the situation through my own lens, with preconceived expectations.

God wasn’t working the way I imagined.

He was doing something new—and I almost missed it.

Seeing Through His Eyes

When our gaze is fixed on God, we start to see beyond what’s visible.

We see with spiritual eyes—from His perspective, not our own.

I had to repent for trying to put God in a box—for trying to predict how His work would unfold. My prayer became simple:

“Lord, open my eyes that I may see through Your eyes.

Have Your way in my husband and in me.

Make a pathway in our wilderness, and create rivers in our dry places.

Thank You, Lord—for You have already begun!”

And just like that, I saw it clearly.

God had been working all along.

“If your gaze is fixed on God, you’ll start to see what He’s already begun.”
— Kamekea

Closing Reflection

Sometimes we miss God’s new thing because we’re too busy looking for an old pattern. But when we lift our eyes and look to Him, we find that the miracle has already begun—quietly, faithfully, right where we are.

Look to Him. See. Trust. He’s doing something new—today.
