Shifts Happen
Unshackled Living: Liberating Ourselves From Old Paradigms
When Mindset Isn’t Enough
In my last post, we talked about waypoints—those moments in our past that become reference points but can also turn into anchors.
But what if, even after having a revelation or breakthrough, you still feel stuck? You’ve “got your mind right,” yet somehow the movement you expected hasn’t happened. Why?
The truth is, shifts happen—in our jobs, health, relationships, and within our hearts. Some shifts are small and routine; others are monumental and life-altering. How we respond to those shifts determines the quality of our lives.
Still, the real challenge often isn’t the shift itself—but the systems we’re still living by, even after our mindset has changed.
The Chains We Choose
Imagine trying to walk or run, but something is wrapped around your ankles and wrists. You can only move so far before you stumble or feel restrained. That’s what happens when we cling to old systems of thought, fear, or control.
They are self-imposed chains—habits, fears, and beliefs that keep us bound even when Christ has already set us free.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then,
and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
– Galatians 5:1 NIV
Notice the words: “let yourselves be burdened.” Christ removed the chains, yet we often pick them back up—link by link—through the patterns that feel familiar.
When our minds are renewed, we must also renew the systems that supported our old thinking.
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,
but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”
– Romans 12:2 NLT
Out with the Old Systems
After experiencing my own breakthrough, I realized that though my mindset had shifted, I was still operating within old systems.
I had let go of fear, but I still avoided discomfort. I had embraced purpose, but I still used “productive” distractions to dodge what really needed my focus.
It was active procrastination disguised as progress—me unknowingly picking back up the old chains I thought I’d dropped.
That revelation hit me hard:
“Out with the old mindset, in with the new” also means out with the old systems that once supported it.
We renew our minds but forget to renew the processes—our behaviors, habits, and default responses—that kept us bound to the old.
It’s Time to Move Camp
I had set up camp in old systems, pitching my tent in familiar habits. And then God whispered:
“It’s time to take up the tent stakes—it’s time to move camp.”
When God transforms our minds, He’s inviting us to align our actions, systems, and routines with that transformation. Because mindset alone can’t carry you into your next season—movement can.
How to Build New Systems for a New Mindset
Here are a few ways to begin aligning your systems with your renewed mind:
1. Embrace Challenges & Take Faith-Filled Risks
Step beyond your comfort zone and trust God in the unfamiliar. Growth happens where surrender meets obedience.
2. Practice Mindful Time Management
Structure your days intentionally—prioritize time with God, focused work, rest, and reflection. Order creates space for purpose.
3. Cultivate Gratitude & Contentment
Shift from scarcity to abundance. Thank God for what is, not just what’s coming. Gratitude expands your perspective.
4. Reflect & Journal Regularly
Document your journey. Reflection brings revelation. Writing reinforces what God is teaching you and helps you see progress over time.
Small, consistent changes lead to big transformations.
You don’t have to overhaul your life overnight—just start.
And remember—you’re not meant to do this alone. Find accountability. Surround yourself with others who encourage growth and faith-filled living.
Unshackled Living
God longs to expand your territory—but He can’t do that if you’re still tethered to yesterday’s ways.
Stepping forward will often feel risky, but faith always requires movement.
“For we are God’s masterpiece.
He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,
so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”
– Ephesians 2:10 NLT
Let’s stop picking up old chains.
Let’s move camp.
Let’s live unshackled and free—walking boldly into the new systems, new rhythms, and new seasons that God has already prepared for us.
“Mindset shifts open the door—but system shifts let you walk through it.”
“You can’t live free while operating from the systems that kept you bound.”
“When God transforms your mind, it’s time to move camp.”
